Jake: Hey I’m Jake of Body by Jake and here’s your nutrition tip of the day. Yep, you see Dr. P, you know we’re answering your questions. Here’s the one that I hear all the time I know you do too: Is sleep important?
Dr. P: Of course sleeps important. But emails are hitting us all the time. Remember texting, emailing constantly, working, it’s 24/7 and our day job for all of us.
But sleeps critical. In fact, there are portions of sleep and a most important part of sleep is deep REM.
In that deep REM place, your body releases this hormone or human growth hormone. And it’s in that deep REM place where you reduce inflammation and repair at a cellular level. So sleep fast – we don’t have much time to sleep because we’re very busy.
So sleep quick. How do you do it? After dinner about 40 minutes before bed, consume a piece of fruit. A simple sugar.
A simple sugar will spike your insulin and it promotes a drop in sugar patterns so you sleep hypoglycemicly. You sleep rapidly, you deep REM quicker, deeper, longer. You release more fat, repair muscle tissue and wake up more rested.
Jake: Sleeps important – gotta get your deep sleep. I love it Dr. P, always a pleasure.
