Jake: Hey I’m Jake of Body by Jake with your motivational minute! Pam Kehaly is here – president and CEO at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. Do you set goals?
Pam:
You know, for me the kind of goals I set personally are to have a happy family, to be healthy, to make sure I give back to the community.
Jake: So they’re kind of broader goals, not, you know, I want to do the specific things. Just kind of broader goals that I set for myself. How do you lead well?
Pam: I think it’s all about respecting people. And I can’t even tell you how lucky I am to work with the people that I work with here in this organization.
The people that have come over from other organizations to work here, as well as the people that have already been here. It’s all about recognizing that people have unique talents, and respecting that talent.
An organization is only as good as the people. It’s not anything else, but the people!
When you’ve got individuals that feel respected and feel appreciated, which I do, I just I really appreciate people.
Jake: You’re not afraid of a challenge, to take a chance, to say we’re gonna change how things work takes a lot of courage.
Pam: It’s much easier just to ride the status quo. It’s a little less risky in the short run and the long run that that’s a problem. But in the short run, it’s a little less risky.
With the pace of change in our industry today, it’s important that we really look at that look at what’s happening and then constantly evolve and change and take those risks, so that we stay out front.
Jake: I love it!
