Jake: Hey I’m Jake of Body by Jake and here’s your nutrition tip of the day. I’ve got one for Dr. P! Dr. P, great to see you buddy! He’s got the answers! I’ve got a question from Lori and she asked, “Why can’t I lose weight?”
Dr. P: Sleep hygiene so important. One of the factors for losing weight and dropping your body weight…well a couple factors.
One, of course, is getting enough food, in eating your calories, managing these caloric heat patterns in eating your foods and the consistent pattern that is sustainable.
The other important aspect of weight management is getting that deep sleep in. Many folks don’t sleep well, so they fall into this lack of sleep hygiene. When I mentioned sleep hygiene to somebody they say “well, what’s sleep hygiene?”
Well, ask yourself how many people do you know or even you yourself fall asleep of the TV on with a light on, with the room not the right temperature? So maybe shower first, figure out room temperature, make sure the lights are off, TV off, sleep hygiene so you sleep faster you deeper REM quicker and then you use more fat while you’re sleeping. And then match up your calories the next day. Get your food and get your exercise in.
It really is everything you always talk about – it’s simple thought right. And it’s just being smart about taking care of you, self-care. Forecast your day and most importantly be unreasonable. I like unreasonable! A reasonable person would say “well, my water bottle is empty, I’ll go fill it up later.”
An unreasonable person would say “na-na-na-na, hang on I’m gonna go fill this thing up now I’ll be right back.”
An unreasonable person would say wait-wait-wait, I have to get my snack. Hang on for a second, these are your weak muscles, work your weak muscles, pay attention to them. Be unreasonable.
Jake: Beautiful! You are always reasonable though, Dr. P!
