Jake: Hey I’m Jake of Body by Jake with your nutrition tip of the day. Yes, I’m here with Dr. P, and yes we’re gonna answer one of your questions. This one comes from Jennifer and she asked: do certain foods cause inflammation?
Dr. P: That’s a buzzword now isn’t it? Before it was cholesterol and lipids and “oh my god you’re gonna die with high cholesterol” and now it’s “you’re gonna die with high inflammation.”
Inflammatory markers are really the agers – they’re the ones that get you.
So then you say “okay, l want to get on a good healthy food program. I’m gonna get rid of all my inflammation.” Remember just life in general for us inflames us, so our job is to get rid of it during the day.
Hydration first and foremost. Get your water in and then remove yeast, mold, dairy, gluten from your food program. That sounds confusing, “what the heck?” “what’s that?”. Yeast mold is the baked goods: bread, breads, muffins, bagels, white bread, sandwich breads. The things that are manufactured and then placed on the shelf for sale. Always with extra gluten, yeast, and mold and in our systems, we don’t manage that well. It inflames us and that’s all a carbohydrate.
So it’s a multi ingredient carbohydrate and we can say “well, we’re better off focusing on one ingredient carbohydrates or one ingredient starches like potatoes and rice, and yams and oatmeal oat flakes and oat puffs. So nothing inflammatory. One ingredient starches are your friends. Then the food program you create with that should be sustainable. Manage it consistently in your day.
The other big inflammatory mechanisms are dairy products for many people. Many folks are dairy intolerant because of the lactose and maltose and many of us
it inflames us.
So if you have an adverse reaction from dairy then you know that it is inflammatory for you. So it’s something you want to stay away from. And now with all the different types of milks out there, you can choose an oat milk, use even a soy. You know the different choices there, other than just dairy itself so you don’t feel so confined. But inflammation will get you so watch your inflammatory foods.
Jake: Beautiful, Dr. P. Thank you buddy!
