Jake: Hey, I’m Jake of Body by Jake and here is your nutrition tip of the day with Dr. P. who’s answering your questions. Dr. P great to see you, brother.
Here we go. First question, Holidays, special occasions – everybody has a hard time when it comes to the holiday season or special occasions, like a birthday party. What do you do? What do you tell them?
Dr. P.: You know what I find interesting is that when a holiday comes up, or a birthday, special events…that people try to lock down their foods. “No, I can’t eat that. Oh my God, I can’t have the stuffing with Thanksgiving. Oh I shouldn’t eat the birthday cake.”
Hey, there are 52 weeks in a year, right? And the special holiday shows up.
Enjoy the holiday or have your birthday cake because if you don’t, if you don’t, the next day you will be so upset and so angry you’ll eat the entire cake.
Jake: You talk about pre-gaming but you talk about it in a way about food. Talk about that a little bit.
Dr. P.: Go into your holidays, and go into your birthday event full. Eat your foods up to that point. You know, how many people say “Well, it’s Thanksgiving, but I’m not eating until I have that meal.” And you’re starving. Starving! So then everything’s on the table, plus. No! Eat your foods up to that point. Go into your meal full and then have a little bit of everything. Enjoy it and you will never overeat. And then just keep your water intake up.
Jake: What do you recommend for those pregame type meals going into a birthday party or a celebration?
Dr. P.: Good question! A sugar-fat combination. And that sounds a little weird: sugar, fat, oil – that’s bad. But no! Like a fruit and 12 almonds, a fruit and a tablespoon of almond butter.
These are great and convenient snack choices. So if you have your lunch maybe the event is in the evening. So lunch, snack, snack and a full dinner event.
Jake: Perfect. I love it, man! As always, Dr. P! Right to the point! S
