Jake: Hey, I’m Jake of Body by Jake with you nutrition tip of the day. I’m here with Dr. P and he’s got some answers and I’ve got a question for you, “I feel so inflamed all the time. What am I doing? What am I eating?”
Dr. P.: That’s not right, you know, inflammation I think, is the biggest aging trigger. So what causes aging is inflammation internally, not only from a cardiovascular standpoint like your breathing and lungs and heart, but from your joints.
You wake up in the morning to say “Ah!” So okay, you’re confused about how to manage that. Well, a couple of things really help. Like really look at foods as non-inflammatory or inflammatory foods. And it’s a short list, but I think it’s an important list. It’s important to understand what foods are inflammatory and which ones are not.
First and foremost, the multi ingredient foods are where yeast and molds are found, like your bread-breads, and muffins and bagels. They’re generally gluten bound as well. They’re inflammatory.
Now, here’s an interesting one: beans as well are inflammatory. Because they’re high mold. High mold foods are inflammatory. So soak them, sprout them and then cook them and have them. They are one ingredient guys. They can be beneficial. But mold, yeast, gluten: very inflammatory and alcohol as well. So watch your alcohols, be smart. Stay within that moderate alcohol capacity, right? And really focus on foods that are one ingredient guys. So what’s a one ingredient food? Potato, rice, yam, oatmeal, oat flakes, oat puffs, your fruits, meats, fish, turkey, eggs, nuts and seeds. So these are one ingredient guys.
If you feel inflamed, if you feel puffy ask yourself some key questions. Am I hydrating, am I drinking enough water? Am I eating throughout my day? Am I exercising too much without enough food?
Jake: Talk about that for a second.
Dr. P.: Exercising too much and not eating enough. You’re breaking down your muscle tissue when you go to the gym, so if you’re not repairing it with your right nutrient pattern, your right meal pattern, you stay inflamed.
So food first. Foods are strategic. They’re a way to create a youthful future. They are a strategic way to reduce inflammation.
Focus on your one ingredient guys, moderation with everything else. Be smart and check in with yourself. So remember like an apple pie is not an apple. A skipped meals is as bad as eating pizza. Get your food in, be smart and find a balance and manage it. Because you’re a human doing, you’re not just a human being.
Jake: How about it, Dr.P. As always, fantastic.
