Jake: Hey I’m Jake of Body by Jake. Welcome to our motivational minute with Catherine Anaya. Aerobic instructor for a million years, right? I mean talk show host, news anchor, help me out. The show is awesome!
Catherine: So it’s 8 to 9 a.m. live, and I wake up at 5:30 am because I have to get my son to school, right. So I drop him off, I go do the show and then I usually go to a class right after.
I do what’s called the Body Lab, which is with a reformer – it’s Pilates with what it’s been described as a Pilates on steroids, so it’s it’s pretty intense. I do that twice a week. I do the true fusion almost every day, and then I have a Peloton bike at home.
Jake: Look at you promoting! Promotion – unbelievable!
Catherine:
That’s right, but the bottom line is there’s no excuse for not being able to squeeze in even 30 minutes a day, even if it’s something small, stay with it and just keep at it.
Jake: Well you mentioned moderation and I think a lot of people think that they have to, you know, go all out all the time and I did that for a little while.
I weighed myself every day, I worked out, two hours a day sometimes. Not anymore. I have not weighed myself in years, but I go by the way my clothes fit.
Well, muscle weighs three times more than fat.…I’ve always said get a pair of pants or a dress that you used to wear or maybe want to aspire to wearing and use that as the goal.
Catherine: It’s so important because the number can really play psychologically with you.
Jake: If we went to your house right now, get the camera crew that come to your house, what’s in the fridge?
Catherine: What’s in the fridge? Hummus, cucumber, tofu. Well, if the quinoa pasta wouldn’t be in the fridge, almond milk.
Jake: Is there a day that you say “I’m off of it and I want to enjoy?” What do you go for?
Catherine:
So here’s what I do: it’s the 80/20 rule. 80% clean eating, right? All during the week, and then the 20% is on the weekends when I my husband makes great nachos.
I love nachos! We have a favorite local Italian place that we like to go to. So I’ll have pasta. I love it but if I want pasta during the week, I do the quinoa pasta, which is so good. Isn’t it delicious? And I do bison, chicken. Yeah, I try to eat clean during the week so that I can have my cheat days on the weekend.
Jake: No ice cream, no m & ms, no pizza?
Catherine: I don’t care for ice cream. I do the cauliflower crust pizza.
Jake: Look at you! Well, Catherine and I are great!
Catherine: Great to see you, you’re such an inspiration by the way. Age is just a number!
