Jake: Hey, I’m Jake of Body by Jake with your health and wellness tip of the day. We’re here with Dr. Art Mollen, one sensational guy and Doctor, it’s great to see you. First of all a question from the gang at home. This is a good one, What’s the best time of day to exercise and why?
Dr. Art: Well, I think morning is the best time of day of exercising.
Number one. I’ve done studies on my patients that I found that if you exercise in the morning 75% will stick with that program. And long term, when we check them a year later, if you exercise a noon only 50%.
If you exercise at the end of the day only about 25% of people will actually stick with that program. So the recidivism rate of them going back to their old habits and saying “I’m too tired.” , “I have million excuses.” They get greater and greater as it goes through the day. So morning is definitely the best time of day to exercise.
Jake: I love it in the morning first thing. I prescribed that too because I’m a big believer that first of all get it done. And you get it done first thing in the morning, you’re ahead of everybody in the world. You feel good motivated and inspired. But also I agree with you that the later in the day the more excuses you come up with.
Dr. Art: Oh, absolutely! And if you exercise in the morning, your metabolism is going to increase for about six to eight hours and you’ll burn up more calories. So that breakfast? You already have burned that and I always suggest that people actually exercise before they eat breakfast.
Jake: I love it. Fantastic doctor, and well said! Well done, as always! Stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit.
